NextImg:The Corner: Keep Transgender Madness on the Backfoot

In normal life, it’s best not to take pleasure in the misfortune of others.

Yet in the rough and tumble of politics, with winners and losers inevitable, what the Germans call schadenfreude is much more standard fare. Which is one reason why I have been keen to observe how Democrats have suffered politically for their capitulation to transgender activists, a surrender they are unlikely to reverse. Electoral misfortune would be a fitting fate for peddling false compassion.

That some Democrats are realizing the problems of their position (and getting blowback from their fellow partisans for it) is a further testament to National Review’s own steadfastness on this issue. When the Left, emboldened by prior culture war victories, began to make war on biological reality, NR stood firm. When the cultural commanding heights began to tell — order, really — Americans to accept the top-down dismantling of common sense as inevitable, we held to the fundamental truths we knew our fellow countrymen had not abandoned. And now that it has become clear the march of so-called progress isn’t so unstoppable after all, we want to keep transgender madness on the backfoot.

We have the will to do so. But, as always, we need your help to supply some of the wherewithal. So, if you like the work that we do and would like to see it continue, please consider donating to our spring webathon. Your generosity is essential to ensure that NR remains a beachhead from which to advance the principles we share. Fortune favors the bold. For the sake of the truth, we will be very bold indeed.
