NextImg:The Corner: Kamala Harris ‘Burning a Lot of Bridges’

On this week’s second edition of The Editors, Rich is joined by Charlie, MBD, and Phil. Their discussion covered Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension and Karen Attiah’s ousting at the Washington Post, but also dealt with Kamala Harris’s new tell-all. The former veep and 2024 presidential candidate has a lot of blame to cast on other people, and if she’s eyeing a 2028 run, this may not help her.

Charlie isn’t sure “if she’s gearing up to run again. . . . Maybe she’s looked at the Venn diagrams for 2028 and noticed that there isn’t a circle with Joe Biden in it and concluded that she can make it. She is — and we should not forget this purely because she’s relating things that we find entertaining — also a train wreck. And the two of them together were a train wreck. And Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were one of the key reasons that Donald Trump is president again.”

MBD calls the book “a bizarre exercise,” and says that “based on the excerpts . . . she’s done with politics, at least for a decade, elective politics.” He also thinks “she’s burning a lot of bridges with big-money people, not just Gavin Newsom, but also JB Pritzker. The Pritzkers control a lot of money in the Democratic Party.”

He also points out something Harris doesn’t really seem to have in the book — namely, a case against Trump. “It just sort of assumes you don’t like him,” MBD says, “but even her little revelations about their brief conversations where he said, ‘Oh, you’re a tough opponent, and I say that to be respectful,’ and then she’s like, ‘Well, he was lying to me.’ Well, this is not a very juicy revelation at all, and it makes him look good.”
