“Joy Reid is out at MSNBC after years of fascinating, original, and arresting commentary,” Rich says, tongue-in-cheek, on today’s edition of The Editors — and asks Charlie what he thinks of the news.

After a bit of banter, Charlie responds: “She’s crazy. It’s not that she’s a lefty. Lots of those. It’s not that she disagrees with me. That’s great. Bring it on. She’s a crazy person. She is a race-baiter. She’s a conspiracy theorist. She is perpetually panicked. . . . She doesn’t know much about the country that she lives in.”

Reid, he says, “is not a useful person to have in the press because she does not interpret or relay information in a way that helps her viewers navigate politics and the world around them.”

Noah takes the conversation a step further, wondering what is in store for MSNBC in the future. “Do we even know how long this thing’s gonna be around?” he asks. “. . . But to the extent that they can introduce hosts who are curious about the world around them, who are not so dogmatic and attached to their political philosophy that they refuse to acknowledge challenging evidence, outside evidence, and then help their audiences understand the world around them by having a worldview that comports with events rather than forcing events to comport with the worldview, it’ll be good.”
