Today President Biden pardoned two turkeys, and neither one was named “Hunter Biden.”
“Peach” and “Blossom” were the lucky pardoned turkeys this year; they spent last night in a luxury suite at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel, as is tradition. No, I am not making this up.
Now pardoned, “Peach” and “Blossom” will now head back to Farmamerica, “Minnesota’s center for agricultural interpretation, to serve as educational ambassadors of America’s top turkey growing state and inspire the next generation of agricultural students.” Groups like Farm Sanctuary argue that the tradition offers the turkeys an inauthentic form of pardon, sending them to “petting zoos where their care may be neglected or to universities where they are subjected to research—places where they often suffer unseen by the public.”
There is a new push for Biden to offer his son a pardon or commutation of his sentence. Earlier this year, the president promised he would not pardon his son or commute his sentence.
Either move would represent a broken promise, but Biden may well ask, what is anyone going to do? Throw him off the ticket? Impeach him with 55 days until the Inauguration?
