The last time I ran across Daniel D’Addario, Variety’s chief correspondent, was about a year ago when he accused Taylor Swift of heresy for not coming out and endorsing Kamala Harris. (A day later, Swift endorsed Harris.) D’Addario now contends, “Jimmy Kimmel’s return to his talk show on Tuesday night promises to be one of the most massive television moments of the decade.”
Eh, I guess we’ll see.
It will be the odd “most massive television moment of the decade” that will not air in much of the country. In addition to not being shown on the Sinclair affiliates of ABC, the Nexstar affiliates will also not broadcast Kimmel’s show tonight. This means that in addition to not being seen over broadcast television in the bigger Sinclair markets like Washington D.C., Seattle and Portland, it will also not be seen in Nexstar markets like Nashville, Tenn., New Orleans, La., Salt Lake City, Utah, and Hartford, Conn. In fact, when you add it up, Kimmel won’t be airing in 66 markets tonight. Surely, Kimmel, ABC, and his fanbase are hoping for a ratings bonanza for his return show, but that will be more difficult when Kimmel isn’t back on the air in a good chunk of the country.
