NextImg:The Corner: Is Your Local Rabbit Sanctuary Teaching Bunnies to Sieg Heil?

Sometimes I wonder what the daily to-do list of a progressive activist looks like. Not shower? Check. Put on a keffiyeh? Check. Say daily “affirmations” about how your body is a sacred temple while injecting yourself with cross-sex hormones? Check. Bully your local bunny sanctuary because it is transphobic? Check.

This month, the trans-inclusion fanatics targeted the Carrot Cottage Rabbit Rescue, a registered charity in the United Kingdom that has helped over 150 bunnies, because the rabbit sanctuary’s social-media page followed “anti-trans accounts” like Wings Over Scotland, which states in its biography that “women don’t have penises.” Some social-media users claimed to have publicly submitted complaints to the United Kingdom’s Charity Commission, presumably with the aim of removing the rabbit sanctuary’s legal status as a charity. It appears that one social-media user filed a formal complaint about Carrot Cottage Rabbit Rescue because the account was “overtly and explicitly encouraging anti-trans bigotry as a fundraising strategy.” One person asserted that the Carrot Cottage Rabbit Rescue is “supportive of fascists.” Another person, who, of course, had the trans-pride flag in the account username, charged the following: “This rabbit charity is transphobic but likes to act like it’s not.” Apparently, as a consequence of following TERF-ish accounts, the Carrot Cottage Rabbit Rescue is just one step away from “justifying genocide,” and we can expect bunnies with rifles to Sieg Heil any day now.

In response to the onslaught of online hate, the Carrot Cottage Rabbit Rescue wrote the following: “Here is the issue. I support bunnies. I’m not here to advocate trans lives nor transphobia. It’s literally just about bunnies.” That seems like a pretty reasonable statement coming from, you know, an actual bunny sanctuary. This is how a totally normal, sane, and respectable person responded: “Such a gross statement. ‘I do not advocate for trans lives’ do you understand how f***ing deranged that is to say.” Ah, yes, how dare the bunny hospital not dedicate its mission to helping young girls obtain double mastectomies?

And, I kid you not: the Carrot Cottage Rabbit Rescue was not the only bunny sanctuary targeted for its “transphobic” beliefs this week. Activists went after the Tranquil Rabbit Sanctuary after it expressed support for the Carrot Cottage Rabbit Rescue. Who could have guessed so many bunny caretakers are Nazis?

These militant progressives, who claim to be “anti-fascist,” seem perfectly willing to commit bunny genocide by discouraging, or wholly preventing, charitable gifts to rabbit sanctuaries. I am marginally impressed that these unhinged activists managed to be optimally burdened by rescued bunnies. But I am mostly disturbed, despite my general apathy towards rabbits, for this is simply authoritarianism wrapped in a rainbow flag: Even merely subscribing to the “wrong” accounts on social-media is enough to brand you as a dissenter who must be subject to a struggle session, and all activities — including animal rehabilitation — must be done under the guise of supporting the orthodoxy.
