The weekend after Thanksgiving always has some of the best the game of college football has to offer. And, yes, that includes “The Game”: Michigan vs. Ohio State.
This year, No. 2 Ohio State (10-1) was playing for a Big 10 Championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff. Unranked Michigan (6-5) was playing for nothing but pride. The Wolverines have taken their lumps in a rebuilding year after winning last year’s National Championship. They haven’t been very good. But Michigan (under first-year head coach Sherrone Moore — a former Oklahoma offensive lineman, Boomer Sooner) was also looking to make it four straight wins over Ryan Day’s Buckeyes.
The game was tied 10-10 at half time, before Michigan kicked a field goal in the fourth quarter to win 13-10. Ohio State’s vaunted offense didn’t score in the second half — at home! — in the face of an amazing Michigan defensive performance. Of course, this being college football, the insanity was just beginning.
As the clock hit zeros, Michigan players planted a Block “M” flag on the Ohio State logo at the 50-yard line — and Buckeye players stormed over and tried to stop them. A brawl ensued. The cops pepper-sprayed players on both sides, which — we should say plainly — is insane!
Here’s a clip of the scuffle:
The whole thing is nuts, of course, but can I just say that I’m 100 percent with Michigan’s Kalel Mullings. Ohio State had four quarters and 60 minutes of football to stop the Wolverines from making it four straight wins and partying on their home field.
Hey, Ohio State: There’s an easy to way to prevent visiting teams from planting their flag on your home field. Win the football game.
