Speaking in a town hall hosted by CNN at New England College in Henniker, N.H., presidential candidate Nikki Haley rejected the idea of pardoning Donald Trump before the results of his many cases are made known. She insisted, “Everything needs to play out.” She then acknowledged that she would pardon Trump, as she’s previously sworn to do, should the former president be found guilty.
“The last thing you need is an 80-year-old president sitting in jail,” said Haley. The former governor of South Carolina made it clear that she thought imprisoning her former boss would only further divide the country with little to show for it while inviting social discord.
The campaign appears to have decided against running Haley’s quotes about waiting for the courts’ findings as well as her reaffirming the promise to pardon a convicted Trump.
