Glynis Johns, the British actress, has died, aged 100. Johns had a remarkable career, spanning eight decades, both in film and on stage. She’s well known for playing Desiree Armfeldt in Stephen Sondheim’s 1973 <em>A Little Night Music</em>, for which she won a Tony Award. Sondheim wrote the iconic hit “Send in the Clowns” with Johns’s distinct voice in mind.

And then of course, for playing Mrs. Banks in the original 1964 <em>Mary Poppins</em> movie. “Sister Suffragette” remains one of my favorite musical numbers, and the energy that Johns brought to the part is contagious.
