With three months to go before the theatrical release of Reagan, the first official trailer for the upcoming biopic just dropped.
Additional cast members include Penelope Ann Miller as Nancy Reagan, Mena Suvari as Reagan’s first wife Jane Wyman, Lesley-Anne Down as Margaret Thatcher, David Henrie as young adult Reagan, and Kevin Dillon as Jack Warner, among many other actors.
Written by Howard Klausner, the screenplay is based on Paul Kengor’s 2006 book, The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism. Kengor teaches political science at Grove City College.
Reagan will hit theaters nationwide on August 30, nearly four years after production began on the project. The film was directed by Sean McNamara (Soul Surfer) and will be distributed by ShowBiz Direct, a newly launched studio led by exhibition veteran Kevin Mitchell, former Lionsgate distribution president Richie Fay, and former Open Road distribution co-president Scott Kennedy. Reagan marks the first movie to be distributed by ShowBiz Direct.
Weeks before Thursday night’s trailer, a sneak peek was shared online showing Reagan delivering a televised speech on the U.S.’s Strategic Defense Initiative, which was instantly nicknamed the “Star Wars” program upon the president’s announcement of the missile-defense system. Fittingly, the short clip was released on May 4, otherwise known as Star Wars Day. Additionally, an exclusive look at the film was shown during a private screening at CPAC 2024 in late February.
Quaid has been recently promoting his new film, speaking with Fox News and Jordan Peterson this month.
