One of the consequences of having the world’s richest man, and a guy who parallel-parks rockets, as the guy heading your commission on eliminating waste in government is that guys like that tend to do or say whatever they want, and aren’t always such team players.
Yesterday, President Trump happily announced the Stargate Project, “a new company which intends to invest $500 billion over the next four years building new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States. ”
Maybe the new Stargate project is a good idea, maybe it isn’t. As the Wall Street Journal notes, “There has been longstanding tension between Musk and Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO.” Maybe this is just a lingering grudge, or maybe Musk has genuine reliable sources that SoftBank’s financial support is… er, soft.
But no doubt President Trump would prefer that the “first buddy” not jump onto his social media platform and declare publicly that yesterday’s big announcement isn’t going to work.
