National Review senior writer Noah Rothman said on Tuesday’s Editors that he doesn’t “understand why [Democrats and liberals are] so protective” of their narrative around Tyler Robinson, as more details about Charlie Kirk’s alleged murderer emerge.
There’s an “obvious psychological resistance that we’re seeing from Democrats and liberals to confront our shared reality,” Rothman said.
Fellow panelist Jim Geraghty noted that most people are rightly horrified by the assassination, but Rothman voiced concern about the ongoing misinformation surrounding the killing. “We had a YouGov poll published on Sunday that found more people believe Robinson is a Republican than a Democrat,” Rothman pointed out. Many of these respondents are “marinating in mainstream media, which is obfuscating this.”
He reminded listeners that “when we had the shell casings, you had CNN come out and say, ‘There’s some phrases on there.’ First, they were ‘culturally relevant phrases.’ . . . It was about as obscure as you could possibly make reporting on something that is [of] obvious urgent public interest.
“There’s an effort underway to bury the truth as we know it under an impenetrable mountain of obfuscations, lies, and misdirection, and it is catching on.”
