Senator Tim Kaine recently demonstrated his jaw-dropping ignorance on America’s Founding in a hearing for a new Trump administration nominee. I correct Kaine on the political philosophy undergirding our country in a new video for my National Review YouTube channel, “Locked In.”
Kaine argued that our rights come from government and aren’t bestowed by a benevolent creator, despite statements to the contrary from the Founders. His glossing over this history was shocking: not just because he was almost our vice president, but because he is a senator from Virginia, home of the author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson. Senator Ted Cruz swooped in to instruct his colleague on his botched understanding of constitutional history and recite the Declaration’s preamble, since Kaine appeared to have forgotten it. Watch the video above.
