It never made any sense for DeSantis to avoid interviews with legacy outfits, so it’s a good thing that his campaign is finally reversing course. That said, it’d be a mistake to put too much weight on this one interview, and there’s potential for DeSantis to come off poorly if he’s too determined to try to force a conflict. He should be firm, push back as warranted, and realize that it’s okay if there’s no big moment — there will be plenty of other opportunities if he keeps mixing it up with the mainstream press.
