University DEI zealots lost in the Supreme Court, and they have been losing in many state legislatures, as elected officials try to return their educational institutions to teaching useful knowledge rather than leftist blather. Nevertheless, a number of them continue on with their mission of turning students into social-justice warriors.
In today’s Martin Center article, Louis Galarowicz examines the University of South Carolina and finds that DEI bureaucrats are continuing on as before.
For example, “racial balancing” remains a priority throughout the university. Galarowicz writes: “This goal of racial balancing is widely shared among stakeholders in the USC faculty-recruitment process. The USC computer science and engineering department chair writes that ‘the definition of diversity adopted by CSE@USC, which also sets our hiring objectives, is to achieve hiring demographics that converge to that of our regional and national population demographics.’”
Judge individuals on the basis of their ability? No — achieving “diversity” is more important.
In Galarowicz’s view, South Carolina’s legislature has serious work to do to root out the diversity mania in the state’s universities.
