NextImg:The Corner: Defunding Planned Parenthood Is Only a Baby Step

It’s a historic moment — defunding Planned Parenthood, now that Congress has sent the “Big, Beautiful” mess to the White House. But also make no mistake that this defunding of Planned Parenthood is a baby step.

There is so much more to do to build an authentic culture of life in the United States. I’m grateful that Congress kept any defunding in it in the end (down to one year in the Senate from ten years in the House), but at the same time it’s hard (impossible, if you take the platform they were elected on into consideration) to say ending abortion is any kind of real big, beautiful priority for the GOP/Trump administration/MAGA/MAHA.

It’s right and just to celebrate this severing from the abortion/increasingly trans giant. Huge, even. But also remember that the closing of Planned Parenthood is happening in part because the bricks and mortar aren’t as needed as they once were. There are telehealth and abortion pills now, America. This is where we are today. Your local CVS is an abortion clinic now.

A pregnant woman is more alone than ever in some respects — and the pro-abortion left would have it be ever more so, as it attacks pregnancy-care centers as a threat to abortion’s bottom line, never mind the lives of the unborn and the health and happiness of their mothers.

Now let’s talk about real women’s health care. Women deserve better than crappy medicine that masks symptoms with (possibly cancer-causing) birth control. They deserve better than being pressured — even expected, if you reread the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg — to kill their own children. Now, alone in their dorm rooms and apartments.
