National Review is always on the lookout for allies in our institutional mission. Another one appears to have emerged today: Civitas Outlook. A project of the Civitas Institute at the University of Texas at Austin (run by friend of National Review Ryan Streeter), Civitas Outlook (run by Richard Reinsch, another friend of National Review) already seems promising.

The mission of the Civitas Institute is to develop “policy recommendations that remove barriers to individual and shared prosperity.” Thus, the purpose of Civitas Outlook is to represent “a community of scholars and thinkers who write about the core ideas of freedom and virtue, constitutionalism, economic growth, and dynamism crucial to citizenship and flourishing as human persons in a free society.” In an announcement message, Streeter promises that the publication will be “defensive of the institutional preconditions of freedom and progress: the rule of law, constitutionalism, limited regulatory interference, well-functioning legislatures, and a healthy civil society.”

Other friends of NR are well represented in the ranks of the publication’s contributing editors and first contributors. Among early entries, Veronique de Rugy condemns corporatism, Sam Gregg advocates a return to growth, Andrew Roberts praises the U.S.–U.K. special relationship, and Reinsch himself defends Israel against its critics.

Seeing its output so far, very much in keeping with National Review, I look forward to seeing what else Civitas Outlook produces. Those also interested can subscribe to its newsletter here.
