NextImg:The Corner: Biden and Student Loans — One Dirty Trick After Another

Have we ever had a president with so little regard for the limits the Constitution places on his office?

Wilson FDR, LBJ, Obama — all trampled over the Constitution to do what they wanted. But I think Joe Biden is in a league of his own. Case in point: his relentless determination to buy votes for Democrats by forgiving college loan debts that students have incurred.

In this New York Post column, James Bovard calls a foul on Biden’s blatantly political shenanigans. He writes, “The beneficiaries of his latest decree will receive a personal email from Uncle Joe: ‘I hope this relief gives you a little more breathing room. I’ve heard from countless people who have told me that relieving the burden of their student loan debt will allow them to support themselves and their families, buy their first home, start a small business, and move forward with life plans they’ve put on hold.’”

The Supreme Court has already said what hardly needed to be said, namely that the president does not have any authority to wipe out loan debts to the government. Of course, that doesn’t matter to Biden and his handlers. The rule of law must never be allowed to get in the way of something politically popular.

Bovard concludes, “Will Biden succeed in portraying himself as the Moses leading oppressed millennials and Gen Z ex-students to the land of debt-free living? Unfortunately, this White House still considers taxpayers predestined for damnation.”

I recently received a copy of Bovard’s new book, Last Rights: The Death of American Liberty. There’s no hyperbole in his title.
