Our panelists tackle the pressing issue of the moment on today’s Editors episode: that is, the ginned-up outrage over Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s supposed Oscars snubbing.

Maddy thinks the movie’s “first 30 minutes were quite amusing and interesting,” but that it became “more and more tedious . . . too abstract.” As a result, “people were able to project whatever their preferred narrative was. And that’s true for both feminist types and reactionary types.”

She adds: “It won some points for kind of novelty and creativity and humor, but it was mostly a letdown.”

As Rich notes, the snubbing is hardly a snubbing considering the many nominations the movie did get.

“I’m almost entirely indifferent to it,” Charlie says, “because I don’t care about the Oscars.” Big picture, though, he yearns to “go back to a time when we didn’t filter every single question through the immutable characteristics of the people involved. And we do. That’s what we do know. That’s what journalism is. That’s what everything is. And that fever needs to break at some point.”

Michael? Oh yes, he thinks Oppenheimer will “destroy” Barbie, so there’s nothing to worry about.
