The absolute tidal wave of antisemitic agitation and action around the world following the October 7 massacre in Israel begs for an explanation.
Nothing that Israel is doing or has ever done to Palestinians (and not all of it has been pretty) comes close to what China is presently doing to Uyghur Muslims.
Nothing it has done comes close to the Saudi bombing of hospitals in Yemen during the worst cholera outbreak in modern history.
Nothing it has done comes close to the ethnic cleansing of Armenian Christians led by the Azerbaijanis in just the last few months.
There are no protests at the Chinese embassy, or in front of the embassies of the Saudis or Azeris.
But random institutions and Jews are now becoming the site of protest and attack. A giant Palestinian-flag-waving mob descended on a Marks and Spencer grocery in Scotland this week. This chain was co-founded by Jewish immigrant Michael Marks, who fled Jewish persecution in Belarus. This all predated the Balfour Declaration, though the Marks family would go on to contribute to Zionist causes. Protesting Israel’s actions at a Marks and Spencer today can only have one message: that the state of Israel should not exist and Jews need to be put in their place.
The same thing is happening on college campuses. Jewish student groups, the members of which are likely to have a range and variety of opinions about how Israel should manage relations with Palestinians or how to respond to the October 7 outrage, are becoming the targets of campus protest and threats of violence. Again, this is a form of scapegoating.
The scenes of pogromists in Dagestan hunting down Jews at the airport almost beggars belief.
We’ve often heard it theorized that antisemitism is a conspiracy theory. And it often takes that shape. But there must be something else that explains this enduring halo of hatred. The presence of such demoniacal behavior can only be explained by reference to the supernatural.
I take it as evidence that the Old Testament is true: These are the people God chose. And somehow the rest of the world knows this honor was not given to their ancestors and will never forgive the Jews for it.
