Leftists have never had any scruples about taking other people’s money and using it to fund their campaigns. As government grows bigger and bigger, they find more ways to dip into the public till to pay for their advocacy. Among the ways is support for purportedly academic associations that push leftist ideology.

Calling this out are Rick Hess and Jay Greene in a new paper published by AEI.

They write:

We estimate that public colleges and universities spend nearly $200 million a year subsidizing faculty dues and paying conference registration fees to politicized associations. While faculty certainly have a right to participate in such organizations, they have no right to do so with public funds.

State legislators should take note of this study. It’s a blueprint for a two-fer — saving money and defunding the left.
