NextImg:Terry Moran Says He Is ‘Not That Liberal’

Recently fired ABC News national correspondent Terry Moran claimed that journalists do not need to be “objective” in a podcast episode on Monday.

Moran was let go by ABC after he made an X post that claimed President Trump’s Homeland Security Adviser Stephen Miller is a “world-class hater” who uses his hatreds as “spiritual nourishment.” In an appearance on The Bulwark podcast, he defended his statement as “accurate and true.” He also clarified that “it wasn’t a drunk tweet.”

He acknowledged that his post was “very hot” but stood by it, saying that “ten years of evidence” show that it is true. He also claimed that he “used very strong language deliberately.”

“You don’t sacrifice your citizenship” as a journalist, and “your job is not to be objective,” Moran argued. He said reporters are not people who have “no feelings about what happens in their society.” Moran said his firing by ABC was a “business decision,” and he suggested that the company feared retribution from the Trump administration, as Trump would “bring all the power he can” to “destroy them.”

On the podcast, Moran called himself “not that liberal” and insisted that he is a “proud centrist.” Shortly after, he said he was a “Hubert Humphrey Democrat.” Moran said he believes “standing up for what’s right” guides his political views but said Miller is “degrading all that” and a “danger.” He also said Miller spits “venom and lies.”

Moran’s original statement was criticized by Miller, who said, “The privileged anchors and reporters narrating and gatekeeping our society have been radicals adopting a journalist’s pose. Terry pulled off his mask.” Vice President JD Vance said Moran’s post was “disgraceful” and “dripping with hatred,” while White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said it was “unhinged and unacceptable.”

An ABC News spokesman told NR that Moran was fired because “we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism.”

“We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post — which was a clear violation of ABC News policies — we have made the decision to not renew.”

Moran recently launched an eponymous Substack, where he has started publishing articles and videos. In one post, he wrote, “We will lose this democracy if we do not use our voices.”

“In institution after institution, from the law firms to the universities to the Senate itself, and beyond the institutions into our everyday lives—force is being applied to your willingness to speak up and tell the truth about what you are seeing and experiencing.”

In a separate video post, Moran expressed support for Saturday’s protests against Trump.
