Capitol Police arrested a man Tuesday night for allegedly assaulting Representative Nancy Mace (R., S.C.) over her steadfast opposition to men using women’s bathrooms on Capitol Hill.

James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois was arrested for the alleged incident and is now facing a charge of assaulting a government official. McIntyre’s alleged assault took place at the Rayburn House office building around 6:oo p.m.

“I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women. Capitol police have arrested him,” Mace said on X.

“All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe,” she added.

“Your threats will not stop my fight for women!”

Before the alleged assault, Mace repeatedly warned about the violent threats she had received from activists over her opposition to allowing males to use women’s restrooms on Capitol Hill. She has accused her political opponents of unsuccessfully attempting to bully her into silence because of her advocacy.

Mace began speaking out last month about the issue to prevent transgender Representative-elect Sarah McBride (D., Del.), born Tim McBride, from using women’s bathrooms after taking office.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R., La.) announced in November that the usage of single-sex facilities on Capitol Hill will be determine by biological sex, ensuring McBride is not able to use women’s restrooms.

McBride confirmed in a statement that he would comply with the rules despite disagreeing with them. He previously characterized Mace’s public campaign as extremist and desperate.

“I’m not here to fight about bathrooms. I’m here to fight for Delawareans and to bring down costs facing families,” McBride said.

Mace has also proposed legislation to keep men out of women’s spaces on all federal property, touting her efforts over the past few weeks on social media, as she frequently warns about the threat posed to women’s safety by allowing men into their spaces.

Right after winning another congressional term, Mace is reportedly considering a run for statewide office in South Carolina, with governor Henry McMaster’s (R) second term ending in two years.

Male participation in women’s sports became a hot-button issue this election cycle as males have entered women’s competitions and began smashing records and posing a threat to the safety of female competitors.

President-elect Donald Trump has promised to prevent men from playing women’s sports and prevent taxpayer-funded institutions from promoting transgender ideology. During the campaign, Trump ran TV advertisements contrasting Vice President Kamala Harris’s support for “they/them” and his support for all Americans, a slogan that proved to be extremely effective on Trump’s road towards a decisive electoral victory.
