South Dakota governor Kristi Noem said Tuesday she doesn’t plan to endorse a candidate in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, but suggested there is no “path to victory” for any candidate besides former president Donald Trump.

Noem had been rumored to be considering her own 2024 bid, though she told KWAT radio that she is currently just focused on her work as governor.

“Wouldn’t that be interesting? If there was South and North Dakota governors running for president? But no — right now, I am so focused on South Dakota,” Noem said, alluding to North Dakota governor Doug Burgum’s presidential bid.

She said Burgum has asked for her support and called him a “good guy” who is “working hard.”

But asked whether she plans to endorse a candidate she said, “No, I don’t think so. President Trump is in the race and right now I don’t see a path to victory for anybody else with him in the race and the situation as it sits today.”

“But I think people should saddle up — it could be a roller coaster of a presidential race,” she added. “I think it’ll be unprecedented in what we’ll see. There’s a lot of unknowns and the person who may win may not even be in the race yet.”

Trump is the frontrunner by far, leading the pack with 52.1 percent support, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls. Florida governor Ron DeSantis sits at a distant second with 21.5 percent support, followed by former vice president Mike Pence at 5.8 percent and Nikki Haley at 3.6 percent.
