Health-care giant Kaiser Permanente is suspending transgender surgical procedures for teenagers at facilities nationwide in response to the Trump administration’s actions.

Kaiser Permanente is pausing the transgender surgeries for patients age 18 and under, a major victory for the federal government in its fight to prevent teens from undergoing such operations.

“In response to these federal actions, many health systems and clinicians across the country have paused or discontinued providing gender-affirming care for adolescents,” Kaiser Permanente said in a statement provided to NR.

“As the legal and regulatory environment for gender-affirming care continues to evolve, we must carefully consider the significant risks being created for health systems, clinicians, and patients under the age of 19 seeking this care,” the statement continues.

However, Kaiser said its facilities will continue providing other transgender interventions.

The company made note of President Trump’s executive orders and regulatory actions targeting transgender surgeries and hormone treatments. It also refers to the Justice Department’s issuance of subpoenas on medical practitioners and providers as part of federal investigations into transgender clinics. Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a memo earlier this year that the Justice Department would enforce genital mutilation statues to comply with Trump’s executive order on protecting minors from gender transitions.

The Trump administration’s actions have caused numerous hospitals to shut down their gender transition practices in recent weeks, with each serving as a win for the federal government. Many of the closures have occurred in facilities located in blue states and cities.

Moreover, the Supreme Court decided 6–3 in June to uphold Tennessee’s ban on transgender operations on minors, likely ensuring that similar bans will be held up in a plethora of red states nationwide.

“After significant deliberation and consultation with internal and external experts including our physicians, we’ve made the difficult decision to pause surgical treatment for patients under the age of 19 in our hospitals and surgical centers,” Kaiser Permanente’s statement adds.

“This pause is effective August 29, 2025. All other gender-affirming care treatment remains available. We continue to meet with regulators as well as our clinicians, patients, their families, and the community with the goal of identifying a responsible path forward.”

Kaiser Permanente’s action was first disclosed by conservative influencer Billboard Chris, an activist opposed to gender ideology and transgender medical interventions. Detransitioner Chloe Cole, an outspoken opponent of allowing minors to undergo gender transitions, celebrated Kaiser Permanent’s announcement as an important victory.

“Kaiser Permanente, the gender clinic that destroyed my childhood, has confirmed they will be HALTING transgender surgeries for patients under the age of 19 nationwide, effective next month!” Cole said on X.

“This is only a pause, according to internal emails, but these incremental wins must be celebrated! We are winning! Thank you to the Trump administration for protecting kids!!!”

Cole is one of many detransitioners to come forward to describe how they were rushed into hormonal and surgical interventions as teenagers suffering from gender dysphoria and other mental health conditions. The detransitioners came to regret the gender transition procedures and have become leading activists in the push to ban them.
