The office was struck as part of IDF attacks on government sites across Tehran this weekend.

The head of an Iranian government office that organized an infamous international Holocaust-denial conference said that Israeli forces struck his organization, apparently as part of IDF attacks on government sites across Tehran this weekend.

“The criminal regime of Israel launched a deliberate and ruthless strike on one of the buildings of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, located directly across from the Institute for Political and International Studies,” wrote the institute’s president Saeed Khatibzadeh in a post to X on Sunday.

Khatibzadeh claimed that several civilians were injured in the strike and that it hit the library of the institute, which is known by the acronym IPIS.

IPIS, which is operated by the Iranian ministry of foreign affairs, hosted a summit called the International Conference to Review the Global Vision of the Holocaust in 2006.

The event was condemned by world leaders for pushing Holocaust-denial talking points and was framed as an opportunity for “both sides” to present their arguments, according to a New York Times report on the event. One of the participants was Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke.

The conference led several Western think tanks to cut their ties with IPIS. The New York Times reported that a poster at the gathering called the Nazis’ use of gas in the genocide a myth, while other posters claimed that pictures of corpses depicted the aftermath of a typhus epidemic, rather than Nazi victims.

IPIS also reportedly oversaw the Iran Experts Initiative, a wide-ranging effort throughout the 2010s to cultivate a network of second-generation Iranian scholars in Western countries to push talking points that favored the Iranian regime’s position in ongoing nuclear negotiations.

Some of those experts included confidants of Robert Malley, President Biden’s controversial Iran envoy.

Reporting about the Iran Experts Initiative from Semafor and Iran International led Republicans to call for an investigation into Iranian regime efforts to infiltrate the State Department and Pentagon.

Malley was placed on unpaid leave in 2024, reportedly for the alleged mishandling of classified information.

Trita Parsi, a Washington, D.C.-based commentator who holds dual Swedish and Iranian citizenship, expressed outrage about the strike on the IPIS facility.

“Israel is killing diplomats,” he wrote in bold text.
