Hunter Biden believes he knows why Democrats performed poorly in the 2024 presidential election.

The younger Biden is chalking up Democrats’s electoral failures to the party being disloyal to his father, former President Joe Biden, and pressuring him to drop out of the presidential race.

“We are going to fight amongst ourselves for the next three years until there’s a nominee. And then with the nominee, we better as hell get behind that nominee,” Hunter Biden told former Democratic National Committee chair Jamie Harrison in a soon-to-be released interview.

Harrison is launching a podcast, At Our Table, and the former first son will be featured in one of the first few episodes. The interview is a rare one for Hunter Biden, who has largely stayed out of the public view after his father left office.

“And I will tell you why we lost the last election. We lost the election because we did not remain loyal to the leader of the party. That’s my position,” Hunter Biden added.

“We had the advantage of incumbency. We had the advantage of an incredibly successful administration, and the Democratic Party literally melted down.”

Democrats revolted against Joe Biden in July 2024 following his disastrous debate performance the previous month. Joe Biden struggled to deliver coherent answers and frequently stumbled over his words in a debate performance that brought his cognitive decline to the forefront of American politics.

When Joe Biden’s political career was collapsing, Hunter Biden became his de-facto chief of staff as the president’s inner circle shrank. As those events unfolded, the younger Biden was dealing with his federal tax case and had already been convicted of federal gun offenses.

Joe Biden eventually stepped aside from the presidential race and threw his weight behind former Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democratic candidate. Harris lost convincingly to President Trump in November and Republicans regained the Senate majority with a 53-47 advantage.

After the election, Joe Biden pardoned his son for all crimes he may have committed from January 2014 to December 2024, making it one of the most sweeping pardons in U.S. history. President Biden gave his son the pardon after repeatedly promising not to get involved with Hunter’s legal issues. On the last day of his presidency, Joe Biden issued preemptive pardons for other family members to protect them from the incoming Trump administration.

Some Democratic observers have criticized Joe Biden for deciding to run for reelection to begin with because of his worsening mental acuity. Biden’s mental decline and the previous administration’s attempt to cover it up is the subject of the bombshell book Original Sin by journalists Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper. Congressional Republicans have also launched multiple investigations into the coverup of Biden’s health, with the most high-profile of them happening on the House Oversight Committee.
