Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R., Ga.) has been ousted from the House Freedom Caucus after she called Representative Lauren Boebert, a fellow caucus member, a “little b****.”
Representative Andy Harris (R., Md.) told Politico “a vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she’s done.”
Harris, who did not say how he voted, told the outlet her removal was an “appropriate decision.”
“I think the way she referred to a fellow member was probably not the way we expect our members to refer to other fellow, especially female, members,” Harris told the outlet, apparently referring to Greene’s fight with Boebert on the House floor.
Politico asked the Maryland Republican if Greene’s position on the debt bill or her support for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy factored into the decision and Harris replied, “I think all of that mattered.”
“I think the straw that broke the camel’s back was publicly saying things about another member in terms that no one should,” he said.
An unnamed Republican lawmaker confirmed the vote to the Daily Beast and said that “disparaging” fellow members is frowned upon.
One lawmaker told the outlet Boebert was against Greene’s removal because she felt it would go against Greene’s right to freedom of speech.
The vote marks the first time the caucus has formally removed a member.
