NextImg:Hamas Agrees to Release All Hostages in Response to Trump Peace Deal

Hamas announced Friday that it would release all remaining Israeli hostages, living and dead, in response to a proposed peace deal brokered by President Trump.

The terrorist group said Friday evening it would release the hostages “according to the exchange formula contained in President Trump’s proposal, and as the field conditions for the exchange are met.”

“In this context, the movement affirms its readiness to immediately enter into negotiations through the mediators to discuss these details,” the Hamas statement added.

Reports indicate there are 48 hostages still being held in Gaza, including 20 hostages who are believed to be alive. Two Americans — Itay Chen, 19, and Omer Neutra, 21 — are among the dead.

Hamas also agreed “to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independent technocrats, based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support.”

It was not clear whether members of the group believed they could be part of that body of technocrats, though that would likely violate a stipulation of the proposed deal that calls for the group to be banned from exercising political power in Gaza in the future.

The statement from Hamas comes as Trump had given the group a deadline of 6 p.m. ET on Sunday to accept a 20-point cease-fire plan. The president warned his administration would bring “all hell” down on the group if it failed to accept by the deadline.

Hamas’s statement did not address several provisions of the proposed deal, including a stipulation that would require the group to give up its arms. Hamas said other details “are to be discussed within a comprehensive Palestinian national framework.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke favorably of the proposal, but warned the Jewish State would “finish the job” if Hamas rejected or failed to honor it.

The war is set to entire its third year next week, after having begun on October 7, 2023, when Hamas carried out an attack on Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 more hostage.
