NextImg:Haley Surges Past DeSantis in Post-Debate New Hampshire Primary Poll

Nikki Haley has definitively surpassed Ron DeSantis in the race for second place in the Republican New Hampshire primary, according to a new poll conducted after the second GOP debate.

The former South Carolina governor has surged ahead of DeSantis, capturing 19 percent support among GOP primary voters in the Granite State compared to DeSantis’s ten percent, according to a Suffolk University/Boston Globe/USA TODAY poll released Wednesday.

However, former president Trump is still dominating the field, racking up 49 percent support in the poll. Of the 500 likely New Hampshire Republican presidential primary voters polled, 48.4 percent believe that Trump’s nomination is now inevitable.

Since the first two Republican primary debates, Haley has been steadily gaining on her competitors. Following the first debate in August, Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio sent a memo to fundraisers and allies of the former president, obtained by Axios, informing them that his internal polls had Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy catching up to DeSantis in New Hampshire.

A different August poll from Public Opinion Strategies, which is aligned with the DeSantis campaign, confirmed that Haley was rising in Iowa after the debate.

The number of Republican debate watchers who said they are considering supporting Haley increased from 29 to 46 percent following the first debate, according to a Washington Post/FiveThirtyEight/Ipsos initiative.

Trump has apparently noticed Haley’s post-debate momentum: After largely ignoring his former U.N. ambassador since she entered the race, he attacked her as “birdbrain” on TruthSocial on Friday. Then, over the weekend, his campaign tried to antagonize Haley by sending a birdcage and seed to her hotel, complete with a handwritten note, according to Haley’s post on X.
