The short-lived feud between President Trump and Elon Musk seems to be winding down, as Musk expressed regret in an early morning social media post for some of his comments criticizing his former political ally.

“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week,” Musk wrote on X. “They went too far.” While Musk did not say which posts he felt contrite about, one was likely his accusation that Trump was in the Epstein files. Musk deleted that post less than two days after making it. He also deleted a separate post that called for Trump’s impeachment.

The former presidential adviser and head of the Department of Government Efficiency broke with the administration over the “Big Beautiful Bill,” which he called a “disgusting abomination.” The bill has passed the house, but could still be rejected by the senate.

The Tesla CEO shared years-old comments from Trump, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson about the national debt, accusing them of abandoning their former positions by supporting the spending legislation. Musk also had harsh words for former Trump aide Steve Bannon, whom he called “a communist retard.” Bannon suggested that Musk be deported.

However, Musk also supportively shared a screenshot of a Truth Social post by Trump and quoted a post from Vice President JD Vance with American flag emojis. He was also extremely critical of the Los Angeles riots and supportive of the administration’s response to them.

Trump said Musk “lost his mind,” and told NBC over the weekend that the tech billionaire is “very disrespectful.” Trump also threatened to suspend government contracts with Musk’s companies. However, on Monday, he had lighter words for Musk, saying he wished him well.

Vice President JD Vance was supportive of the president during the brief quarrel, saying “President Trump has done more than any person in my lifetime to earn the trust of the movement he leads. I’m proud to stand beside him.”

Many Republican leaders expressed hope that the two would reconcile. Senator Ted Cruz told Fox News, “I hope that both of them come back together because when the two of them are working together, we’ll get a lot more done for America than when they’re at cross purposes.” Speaker Johnson, Senator Mike Lee, and Representative Dan Newhouse all expressed similar sentiments.

Tesla lost $152 billion in market shares amid the feud, but they rose slightly in premarket trading after Musk’s apology.
