President-elect Donald Trump told 37 murderers whose death sentences were reclassified by President Joe Biden to “GO TO HELL!” in a Christmas day Truth Social post in which he also trolled Canada’s prime minister and “Radical Left Lunatics.”
In a two-page mid-afternoon post, Trump wished “Merry Christmas to all,” including the “wonderful soldiers of China, who are lovingly, but illegally, operating the Panama Canal” and Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, whom he referred to as “Governor,” continuing with an ongoing troll that Canada should become the 51st state.
Trump also wished a Merry Christmas to “the Radical Left Lunatics, who are constantly trying to obstruct our Court System and our Elections, and are always going after the Great Citizens and Patriots of the United States but, in particular, their Political Opponent, ME.”
But Trump refused to wish a Merry Christmas to the 37 murderers who had their death sentences reclassified to life in prison without parole by Biden on Monday. The 37 men were all convicted of murder, and their victims include children, government employees, law enforcement officers, and other inmates. Trump called the 37 men the “most violent criminals, who killed, raped, and plundered like virtually no one before them, but were just given, incredibly, a pardon by Sleepy Joe Biden.”
“I refuse to with a Merry Christmas to those lucky ‘souls’ but, instead, will say, GO TO HELL!” Trump wrote.
Trump has vowed to lift the Biden administration’s moratorium on federal executions when he returns to office next month. Thirteen federal prisoners were put to death during his first term, but only three men remain on federal death row now: Robert Bowers, the gunman who shot and killed eleven worshipers at the Tree of Life synagogue in 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pa.; Dylann Roof, a white supremacist who killed nine people at a black church in Charleston, S.C. in 2015; and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the 2013 Boston Marathon bomber.
Trump also addressed Greenland in the Christmas-day post, writing that the island territory of Denmark is “needed by the United States for National Security purposes.” The Greenland people, he wrote, “want the U.S. to be there, and we will!”
In recent days, Trump has re-floated the idea of bringing Greenland under American control due to its strategic location. Múte B. Egede, Greenland’s prime minister, has rejected the idea. “We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom,” he said in a statement.
In a follow-up post on Christmas, Trump announced that he was nominating Kevin Marino Cabrera, a supporter and county commissioner in Miami-Dade County, Fla., to be the ambassador to Panama. “Few understand Latin American politics as well as Kevin,” Trump wrote. “He will do a FANTASTIC job representing our Nation’s interests in Panama!”
The move comes as Trump has been threatening to take back control of the canal if Panama doesn’t stop charging “ridiculous” fees to use the vital shipping route. The U.S. gave up control of the 51-mile canal in 1999 under a 1979 treated negotiated by then-president Jimmy Carter.
In another post on Wednesday, Trump continued with his Canada troll, suggesting that the Canadian people “start a DRAFT WAYNE GRETZKY Movement” to urge the hockey legend to run for prime minister. Trump said Gretzky “would win easily” but has no interest.
On Wednesday, Trump also posted a meme of him dancing while flying in Santa’s sleigh and a video montage of the remarks he made about Christmas during his first term.
