Disney announced on Friday it would delay the release of its live-action Snow White by a year. The decision comes after the lead actress called the original movie “weird,” while the Daily Wire unveiled its upcoming movie Snow White And The Evil Queen.

The Disney live-action movie, initially set to premiere on March 22, 2024, is now expected to be released on March 21, 2025. It is directed by David Webb with a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson.

Rachel Zegler, who plays “Snow White” in the upcoming Disney live-action movie, has expressed her disdain for the original 1937 animated movie.

“There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird! Weird,” Zegler said. “So we didn’t do that this time.” She added that Andrew Burnap is cast as Prince Charming, but jokingly suggested that his scenes could be cut, saying, “It’s Hollywood, baby.”

“It’s no longer 1937,” Zegler said in another interview. “She’s not going to be dreaming about true love, she’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be.”

David Hand, whose father worked with Walt Disney to direct the 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs movie, condemned the “woke” remake.

“I mean, it’s a whole different concept, and I just totally disagree with it, and I know my dad and Walt would also very much disagree with it,” Hand said in an interview with the Telegraph.

“They change the stories, they change the thought processes of the characters, they just aren’t the original stories anymore. They’re making up new woke things and I’m just not into any of that,” Hand continued. “There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did. . . . I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves.”

Daily Wire, a conservative media organization, announced this month that it would make a live-action film, Snow White and the Evil Queen, based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale. The movie is set to release in 2024 and will star Brett Cooper, a conservative commentator with Daily Wire.

“I was raised on the original Grimms’ Fairy Tales, so I’m thrilled that we’re bringing this iconic story to life for the next generation!” said Cooper. “Snow White is such a beautiful character, and I’m honored to be playing her. Like all the best fairy tales, this is a story with timeless values, like love, friendship, and kindness, and I can’t wait to share them.”

The Hollywood Reporter cited the ongoing actor’s strike as the possible cause for Disney’s delayed release.
