House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R., Ky.) issued fresh subpoenas on Wednesday to financial institutions to gather credit-cards records for Biden family members and their former business partners.
Comer subpoenaed credit-card companies to obtain financial records for Hunter Biden, James Biden, Sara Biden, and their ex-business associates Eric Schwerin, Gongwen Dong, and Mervyn Yan, a source familiar confirmed to National Review.
Several companies involved with the Biden family’s foreign business dealings, such as Rosemont Seneca Partners, Rosemont Seneca Advisors, Rosemont Seneca Bohai, Owasco P.C and Hudson West III were also hit with subpoenas, the source told NR.
Comer announced the subpoenas on Fox Business’ Mornings with Maria Thursday. He previously subpoenaed bank records from Hunter, James, and Sara Biden.
“Through the interviews and depositions we’ve conducted thus far, we’ve learned that there were several credit cards that were used by various members of the Biden family we believe for personal expenses and we believe these credit cards were being paid by CEFC or through CEFC funded affiliates,” Comer said.
Hunter Biden and former business associate Devon Archer used the Rosemont Seneca Bohai account to receive payments from Ukrainian energy firm Burisma Holdings, bank records show. The pair sat on Burisma’s board together and used the Rosemont Seneca Bohai account from spring 2015 to late 2015.
Archer testified before the House Oversight Committee in July and described how the Biden family “brand” protected Burisma from scrutiny. He recalled a spring 2015 dinner Joe Biden attended alongside Burisma executive Vadim Pozharskyi and Hunter Biden. The New York Post first reported ahead of the 2020 presidential election an email Pozharskyi sent in April 2015 thanking Hunter Biden for the introduction to his father.
Owasco P.C. is Hunter Biden’s business account, which he used to receive payments from Hudson West III, a joint venture created in August 2017 with Chinese energy conglomerate CEFC, according to bank records and Hunter Biden’s federal tax indictment in California. He also used Owasco P.C. for the Burisma funds after Archer’s legal troubles mounted and Burisma stopped sending payments to the Rosemont Seneca Bohai account.
Yan testified in January and mentioned Hudson West III credit cards given to Hunter, James and Sara Biden. Hudson West III’s original operating agreement listed Hunter and James Biden as managers of Owasco P.C. and entitled them to $100,000 and $65,000 monthly compensation respectively.
Hunter Biden received an additional $500,000 retainer fee, divided between a $100,000 payment from CEFC and a $400,000 payment from Hudson West III. In September 2017, Joe Biden received a $40,000 check from Sara Biden after a string of transactions beginning with the $400,000 payment, the bank records indicate.
The California indictment confirms the $400,000 transfer and states that Hunter Biden received $165,000 per month and transferred funds to another business associate, presumed to be his uncle James. Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty on January 11 to the federal tax charges.
James Biden told federal investigators in 2022 he received payments from Hudson West III through Owasco P.C., however bank records indicate the firm also paid him directly in 2018.
James Biden is set to testify before congress on Feb. 21 for the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden centered around the foreign business dealings by Biden family members. Hunter Biden’s testimony is scheduled for the following week.
Former Biden associate Tony Bobulinski testified Tuesday and in his opening statement portrayed Joe Biden as the center of a foreign influence peddling scheme. The transcript of Bobulinski’s testimony has yet to be released.
