Allan Poller, a 24-year-old college student, pled guilty earlier this week to threatening to kill Representative Matt Gaetz (R., Fla.), who Poller accused of infringing on the rights of gay Americans.
Poller was charged with transmitting in interstate commerce a threat to injure the person of another, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of New Hampshire. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Capitol Police led the investigation.
Poller called Gaetz’s office and left the following voice message on March 29, 2023:
Hi, my name is Allan Poller, A-L-L-A-N P-O-L-L-E-R, phone number [redacted]. And I just want to let you know, Representative [Name], if you keep on coming for the gays, we’re gonna strike back and I guarantee you, you do not want to f**k with us. We will kill you if that’s what it takes. I will take a bullet to your f**king head if you f**k with my rights anymore. And then if you want to keep going down that path, you know who’s next.
In an episode of his podcast released on April 10, Rep. Gaetz played a version of the voicemail, which he describes as “disturbing” and attributes to a person “brazenly boasting about their gayness.” Gaetz includes Poller’s phone number but omits the expletives.
Poller, a student athlete at Keene State College in New Hampshire, admitted to leaving the message after he had been drinking and had become angry while watching videos on TikTok.
Poller was arrested on April 3, 2023, and the scheduled sentencing is January 18, 2024. Poller faces up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
