NextImg:‘Character Assassination’: Bobulinski’s Lawyer Accuses Dems of Smearing Ex-Biden Biz Partner to Undermine Explosive Testimony

Former Biden business associate Tony Bobulinski’s attorney has harsh words for Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) following his client’s testimony.

Bobulinski’s attorney Stefan Passantino wrote a letter Wednesday to Raskin, ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, accusing him of mischaracterizing the testimony his client gave Tuesday as part of the House GOP’s impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

“It is with extreme concern that I see the Democrat Minority continue its abusive conduct and disingenuous mischaracterizations of Mr. Bobulinki’s testimony,” Passantino wrote in a letter obtained by National Review.

“Minority assassination of Mr. Bobulinski’s character and grotesque mischaracterizations of his words will only serve to highlight the gaslighting and vilification Mr. Bobulinski has endured since he reluctantly came forward almost four years ago to share with the public the facts of his business experience with the Biden family,” Passantino added.

“As the public will see soon enough, Mr. Bobulinski has the facts and the receipts, and no amount of character assassination will change that.”

Raskin released a statement at the conclusion of Bobulinski’s testimony accusing him of failing to provide evidence of wrongdoing by Joe Biden.

“Over the course of his more than eight-hour long interview, Mr. Bobulinski did not provide any evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden, nor did he provide any evidence at all that President Biden was involved in his family’s business dealings,” Raskin stated. Prior to Bobulinski’s testimony, Raskin cast doubt on his credibility and made him out to be a partisan political actor.

In his opening statement, Bobulinski portrayed Joe Biden as the center of a foreign influence-peddling scheme run by his family members.

“Joe Biden was more than a participant in and beneficiary of his family’s business; he was an enabler, despite being buffered by a complex scheme to maintain plausible deniability,” Bobulinski said.

Passantino’s letter goes on to address Raskin’s statement and confusion surrounding the voluntary interview he gave the FBI in October 2020 ahead of the presidential election.

“First, it is categorically false to assert that Mr. Bobulinski failed to ‘provide any evidence at all that President Biden was involved in his family’s business dealings’ or that he did not testify that ‘Joe Biden was not part of [the Biden family’s] business structure’. Mr. Bobulinski’s testimony and motivations for coming forward will soon be available for all to see, and false mischaracterizations will have no place in this debate,” he said.

FBI notes from an interview Bobulinski voluntarily provided in October 2020 were released by the House Ways and Means Committee in September after they were turned over by IRS whistleblower Joseph Ziegler. Hunter Biden’s defense attorney Abbe Lowell has accused Bobulinski of lying to the FBI based on the interview notes, an allegation Bobulinski strongly denied in his opening remarks.

“The transcript will show that when Mr. Bobulinski was asked by the Minority about second-hand accounts of his words rather than asking him direct questions, Mr. Bobulinski simply corrected errors in the FBI’s internal 302 report about his statements,” Passantino said.

A spokesperson for the Oversight Committee Democrats responded on X, formerly known as Twitter, to Bobulinski’s letter by mocking Passantino and saying the transcript will confirm Raskin’s view. National Review has reached out for further comment.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said Tuesday that Bobulinski testified about Joe Biden’s alleged participation in his family’s Chinese business dealings and Democratic members mistreated Bobulinski throughout his closed-door session.

“Tony Bobulinski articulated under oath that Joe Biden was ‘the brand’ the Bidens sold to enrich the family. Joe Biden not only knew about his family’s dealings with a Chinese Communist Party linked energy company, but he also enabled them and participated in them,” Comer said in a statement.

Bobulinski was part of negotiations between Chinese energy conglomerate CEFC and Hunter Biden over a joint venture known as “SinoHawk” that eventually fell through. He told the FBI he went to California in May 2017 to meet with Joe Biden and discuss the SinoHawk deal, according to the FBI notes.

“Mr. Bobulinski was unshakeable in his testimony today, providing facts Democrats didn’t want to hear. As such, Democrats put on a shameful display as they yelled at Mr. Bobulinski, cut him off, belittled him, and threatened him,” Comer added.

Comer is one of the leaders of the impeachment inquiry into President Biden, which is focused primarily on his son’s foreign business dealings. The younger Biden is set to testify before congress on February 28.
