Former president Bill Clinton has been hospitalized in Washington, D.C., after developing a fever two days before Christmas, his spokesman said.
“President Clinton was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center this afternoon for testing and observation after developing a fever,” Clinton’s deputy chief of staff Angel Ureña said in a statement on Monday. “He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving.”
No specific details regarding the fever or what precipitated the illness were immediately available. But according to NBC News, a source close to the former Democratic president has described the situation as “not urgent.”
“The former president will be fine,” the source reportedly told the news outlet. “He developed a fever and wanted to be checked out. He is awake and alert.”
Clinton was previously admitted to a California hospital for six days in 2021 after a urinary tract infection reached his bloodstream. He also faced health scares involving his heart in 2010 and 2004. Clinton left office in 2001.
