Authorities in Nevada are investigating a death at the Burning Man festival in the Black Rock Desert, where thousands of attendees are trapped due to flooding from storms.

The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office said the death happened during the event but did not share a suspected cause of death or the identity of the deceased person, according to KNSD-TV.

The festival site received more than one-half inch of rain on Friday, the National Weather Service in Reno reported, with at least another quarter of an inch of rain expected Sunday, leaving the festivalgoers in muddy conditions.

“Conserve food, water, and fuel, and shelter in a warm, safe space,” the Burning Man Organization said in a statement to attendees.

Organizers are also rationing ice sales, according to the Reno Gazette Journal. A pause on all vehicle traffic at the festival grounds — aside from emergency vehicles — has meant portable toilets cannot be serviced.

“We have come here knowing this is a place where we bring everything we need to survive… we are all well-prepared for a weather event like this,” the festival added in another statement.

“We have done table-top drills for events like this. We are engaged full-time on all aspects of safety and looking ahead to our Exodus as our next priority,” organizers said.

The event began on August 27 and was scheduled to end Monday. It was not immediately clear when the entrance would open again.

Festival organizers said they would drop mobile cell trailers and open up the internet and also planned to try to help buses navigate out of the area.

“Get some rest and spend some quality time with your campmates” the organization said. “We will all get out of this, it will just take time.”
