If he does not quickly find a solution that will bring lasting peace to the political situation in France, will Emmanuel Macron be able to bring peace to the world? On Saturday, December 7, on the fringe of the reopening of Notre-Dame, he made every effort to do so, first with Donald Trump, who was making his first trip abroad since his re-election as president, then with Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, before eventually gathering the two men around him for a 30-minute discussion and a souvenir photo loaded with symbolism.

Let's start with Zelensky, whose outfits for the field, even the battlefield, reflect the harshness of everyday life for his fellow Ukrainians. In this case, it is his jacket that best fulfills this function. The streamlined brown jacket is inspired by the US Army's iconic M65. It was worn by soldiers in Vietnam, keeping them warm after monsoon rains in the highlands. Introduced in 1965, the M65 was later discontinued by the US Army in 2009.

Trump opted for a black overcoat that covered his imposing figure but did not hide the essentials. Underneath the overcoat, the re-elected US president wore his usual blue suit but without the shiny red tie that has become the signature of his inelegance. In its place was a yellow tie, just as ugly and shiny but far more intriguing. Will yellow be the color of Trump's second term? Or is its association with the suit's blue a subliminal message of support for Ukraine? Time will tell.
