Costa-Gavras, the 91-year-old president of the Cinémathèque Française; Frédéric Bonnaud, its 57-year-old director general; Jean-François Rauger, the 65-year-old director of programming; and Peggy Hannon, deputy director general, took the oath on Thursday, January 16, before the parliamentary commission of inquiry into abuses in the cinema industry. They pledged to tell "the truth and nothing but the truth," following the intense controversy surrounding the ultimately canceled screening of Last Tango in Paris at the Cinémathèque a month earlier.

At the beginning of December 2024, prominent figures in the film industry and feminist groups called for a round table discussion on the shooting conditions of Bernardo Bertolucci's movie before or after the screening scheduled for December 15. The film shows a sodomy scene shot without Maria Schneider's consent, as the actress had not been informed of its existence in the script.
