

Self-published on February 21 in France, the book Devenir Brigitte ("Becoming Brigitte"), by French author Xavier Poussard, who describes himself as an "investigative journalist," has shot to the top of the book sales charts on Amazon. The book, which claims to demonstrate that Brigitte Macron is transgender, alongside allegations of pedophilia and incest within the presidential couple, is, according to its cover, "presented" by Candace Owens. An ultraconservative influencer, this 35-year-old American has already promoted this transphobic theory in a podcast released in January 2025 on YouTube, where she has almost 4 million subscribers. In France in September 2024, two women were convicted of defamation for having broadly spread this fake news, taken up up by several hundred thousand posts on X.
From 2017 to 2019, the East Coast native in her thirties headed communications for the think tank Turning Point USA, founded by the young Trump supporter Charlie Kirk. A creator of content in support of the American president's ideas, the young woman fiercely slammed the Black Lives Matter movement. In April 2018, rapper Kanye West, an avowed supporter of Trump, tweeted his admiration for "the way Candace Owens thinks"; Republican leader Ted Cruz imagined her on the US Supreme Court; and Trump, then in the White House, declared during a rally for the 2020 US presidential election, "She's a very smart thinker."
