War in Ukraine: 'Eleven years ago, on Maidan Square, the candles were already there'
GallerySomewhere between evocation and documentation, photographer Rafael Yaghobzadeh captures the way Russia's war on Ukraine, since 2014, has intruded on everyday life, far from the front line.
Photojournalist Rafael Yaghobzadeh has been working in Ukraine since 2014. At the time, he covered clashes between the police and pro-European demonstrators in Maidan Square. Le Monde commissioned Yaghobzadeh to recount the daily life and resistance of Ukrainians and contemplate the war in Ukraine, to mark three years since Russia invaded on February 24, 2022.
