

What are the main takeaways of the results of the European elections, held from June 6 to June 9, 2024 in the bloc's 27 member states? Results show a significant rise in the far right, particularly in Western Europe. Far-right parties came out on top in France, Italy, Austria and Hungary. They also scored well in Poland, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, among others. Around a quarter of the newly elected MEPs belong to various European far-right parties – 178 out of Parliament's 720 seats, in comparison to 115 in 2019.
At the same time, the Greens, who usually score well at the European elections, suffered losses.
