"It's a fundamental step" that "will go down in history," declared French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, addressing the French Parliament at the Palace of Versailles on Monday, March 4. The lawmakers gathered there voted to include "the freedom guaranteed to women to have recourse to a voluntary termination of pregnancy" in Article 34 of the Constitution. The text received 780 votes in favor, 72 against. With this vote, France becomes the first country to explicitly enshrine access to abortion in its Constitution.
