There was a stark divide between how men and women voted in the 2024 US presidential election on November 5. National exit polls showed men favored Republican candidate Donald Trump, while women favored democratic nominee Kamala Harris.

This divide, known as a "gender gap," can be partly explained by a key issue that came up throughout both party's campaigns: abortion and reproductive rights. After Roe vs Wade was overturned in 2022, some states put the question of access to abortion on the ballot. While Harris focused her campaign on promising all American women the right to abortion, her Republican contender skirted the question. His own campaign revolved around a misogynistic rhetoric.
