At least 150 people have been killed in flash floods that devastated southeastern Spain on Tuesday, October 29. The Valencia region is virtually cut off from the rest of the country due to the state of the infrastructure, and some villages remain inaccessible to search and rescue workers.

The town of Utiel has begun its clean-up operation. Residents say they are in shock: "What makes me sad are the people who died, and there were a lot of them," said one teacher. These floods are the deadliest in Spain since August 1996.
