It is the first time since 1923 that swimming is once again allowed in the Seine for the general public. The opening took place in the French capital this morning under strict supervision. Every swimmer has their aquatic skills assessed by a lifeguard before entering the water.
Daily water quality tests are conducted. Green, orange, and red flags indicate the current and water quality. More than €1.4 billion has been invested to improve water cleanliness. Along with three basins near the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame and in Bercy, east of Paris, several other swimming zones are being considered for 2026, including on Île Monsieur and Île Saint-Denis.
