The images coming out of Rafah, from Gazan journalists or social media, show people waiting in huge queues for food and water, or even just to recharge their phones. "Outside, people live while we run after a plate of food so that our children can survive," explains a Gazan woman who has taken refuge in Rafah.

Since the start of the war, the population of this city in the southern Gaza Strip, on the border with Egypt, has increased sixfold. As the only urban center that the Israeli army has not entered, some 1.4 million people have taken refuge there and are now living in camps, tents or schools.
