Images from surveillance cameras reveal the force of the earthquake that struck on the country's west coast on Monday, January 1. Since then, over 150 aftershocks have been recorded. The authorities issued a tsunami warning following the 7.6 magnitude quake, but later lifted it, and ordered the population of the affected area to take refuge on higher ground.

Several buildings collapsed and fires broke out. As of January 2, 48 people have died, with dozens more injured.
