On Monday morning, January 15, the French island of La Réunion in the Indian Ocean was under violet alert, the highest level, before passing to red alert status after midday, allowing emergency workers to intervene.

After hitting La Réunion from the island's north and west, causing heavy rain and violent wind gusts, the cyclone's eyewall eventually veered northwards without going inland. According to the local prefecture, this was "probably due to the island's raised topography." The prefecture confirmed the death of a homeless person.
